Streatham’s first All-Through Community School

September 2017 will see the start of Woodmansterne’s Secondary Phase as 90 Year 7 students lay the foundations of this pioneering all-through Community School. Woodmansterne’s motto, “Working together to achieve excellence in everything we do”, sums up their vision and ethos as an inclusive, co-educational and non-selective school.
A Year 4 parent of the School says, “The ethos and the environment of the school is already excellent; my child is very happy and feels very cared for at Woodmansterne. I am looking forward to him continuing his journey there.”
Rated outstanding by OFSTED, “Woodmansterne provides opportunities and experiences that develop young people’s resilience and emotional well-being. This is what makes the School outstanding”. As an all-though school they build upon the foundations of their outstanding Primary provision, continuing to embed their well-established values into the Secondary Phase. Their mission is to provide an outstanding education for children and young people aged from 3 to 18 in the local area; whilst continuing to support parents and families of children in the early years at their reputable Children’s Centre.
Samantha Palin, the Executive Headteacher, says “As an all-through school Woodmansterne will establish a new approach to secondary transition, providing a seamless journey from Year 6 to Year 7. This will be achieved by re-thinking the traditional secondary curriculum and transition process. Traditional barriers between primary and secondary provision are removed, allowing staff to work together to develop teaching, learning and assessment practices that bridge the gap between Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 3.
With learners of all ages on site our older students will act as mentors to the younger children; whilst our younger children benefit from a variety of role models the older students will have opportunities to develop their leadership skills. The first Year 7 students will be our pioneers - shaping the future of the school as our future House Captains, Prefects, Head Boys and Girls. It really is an exciting time for the local community.”
The School will have modern, new facilities, including four Multi-Use Games Areas, dedicated ICT suites, specialised science labs, a library and drama space. The experienced leadership team and committed staff are dedicated to achieving excellence: providing outstanding learning opportunities, promoting high academic standards and inspiring success.
