Streatham restaurants review

There has always been a great selection of Chinese restaurants and takeaways, curry houses and traditional fare in Streatham but recently there has been a food revolution in Streatham. A flurry of new independent restaurants, delis, and cafes have opened over the past few of years.  Five years ago it was difficult for a coffee connoisseur to find a decent cup of coffee on the Streatham High Road, to say nothing of a great cappuccino. My, but have times changed! The question is now not whether you can find one but where to choose.

I Love Coffee started Streatham's pavement cafe culture by challenging in court ancient laws used to charge food vendors to put tables and chairs outside their premises along the High Road.  Perfect Blend first put the tables an chairs out about five years ago, and now we have Hideaway Café, Boyce da Roca, Earl Grey and Rose, Serendipity, and Brooks and Gao amongst others vying to be Streatham’s best indie cafe.

Now, a new generation of foodie entrepreneurs has snapped up vacant shops and premises, and Streatham is licking its lips!

“Great value, friendly, local Lebanese”
Eaten here a couple of times and staff have always been v friendly and efficient. It is a meze restaurant so the food comes out when it is ready, not all at once - so perfect for sharing lots of little dishes.

Also the main thing is that the food here is really delicious; it is bring your own booze and is not too expensive.

Big thumbs up!

“Delicious and authentic” Very simple good ingredients, generous topping, fast service. Everything you want from a pizza place. Terrific value too! I can't believe people still eat at Pizza Express instead of supporting small honest and dedicated local places like this. Keep up the good work guys"

“Lovely authentic Italian food - an absolute hidden gem” the nicest Italian restaurant I have been to outside of Italy. A warm welcome for four noisy riotous little girls and their tired parents…. The food was excellent, fresh and full of flavour as you would expect from good Italian food. Clearly the quality of the ingredients is excellent. Very good value as well."
"The gelato was perfect - it felt like I was transported back to Italy. Four little ones and three hungry adults paid £61 for tea – can’t say better than that."
“Great family restaurant hidden in plain sight”

“A little piece of Italy or Capri to be exact...”
"Excellent food, wine and service. Wed eve packed, many Italians in, which speaks for itself. We had a lovely mid-week evening here. Fresh food, freshly prepared and served."
“ Will def be back. Grazie!”

No need to go into Wimbledon or North of the River, we have a gastronomical paradise on our doorstep.

Gastro pubs started all this, with the complete renovations and transformations of the Railway Inn, the Earl Ferrers, the Manor Arms and the Hamlet amongst others.

Duncan Love of the Earl Ferrers insists a strict focus on the quality of his food as well as a great atmosphere for customers is the secret behind their success. It must be good as the Guardian named the Earl Ferrers as one of the top 10 pubs in London!
