As a club established in the 1930’s that has made some dramatic changes over the last year where we altered our name, designed new logos and launched new warm up tops and merchandise, we could all be forgiven for expecting that it might be time to take it easy, and with a full roster just move on to play hockey uninterrupted into 2017.

Welcome to the November update from your local ice hockey team the Streatham RedHawks. With one win, one loss and one draw from our most recent home games, there is still an awful lot to play for as the season hots up.
The ice rink on the High Road is not just home to the Redhawks. You can also come to watch Streatham Storm, London’s only women’s ice hockey team – for free!
With more than 35 players registered for the 2016-17 season, there is a surge of optimism this year as Storm is running teams in both the English women’s Premier league and in Division One.
Over the past two years, Streatham’s ice hockey team have implemented a plan to move away from the use of the Redskins by the beginning of the 2016/17 season. . A club statement said:
‘As a progressive and forward looking team who want to attract new supporters, encourage more local kids to join our junior club and create a positive image for ice hockey within our great city we have decided to drop the Redskins name from our team at the end of this season."

The last few weeks of the 15/16 season have been an absolute roller coaster for the management, players and fans of the Streatham Redskins, with some incredible highs and some miserable lows for the team. Suffice is to say that Chelmsford Chieftains continue to dominate the league. Streatham did play some superb ice hockey, particularly memorably against Invicta Dynamos in the Cup semi-final and against Oxford City Stars in the quarter finals of the play-offs.
For the past two seasons Streatham’s ice hockey team have implemented a medium term plan to move away from the use of the Redskins name in preparation for a final removal for the beginning of the 2016/17 season. The decision was announced recently and attracted media attention from around the globe including a segment on Sky Sports News.
