The festival runs from JULY 3-30TH in two pop up venues, the ABOVE AND  BELOW where we will be screening films, exhibiting photos and pictures and producing theatre and music. We look forward to welcoming you there in our friendly and very reasonably priced bar.

Streatham Common Kite Day 2017

Kite Day is a wonderful family event. In between marvelling at the displays or kite flying, children can go on the bouncy castle or get their faces painted.

Dance on the Common to live music from GroovEsscence, who will play between the displays. And if dancing is not for you, explore the community stalls to get a taste of the incredible groups and societies which help make Streatham so special. Image of Groovessence

Richard Payne, from the Friends of Streatham Common, which organises Kite Day is excited about the 2017 event.

Charity Begins at Home on the Streatham High Road

By: EJ Ward

When I said to people that I was going to move to Streatham the first thing people mentioned was the food. We are well provisioned with more places to eat, than Donald Trump had votes.

But, what people failed to mention was their dirty little secret, the charity shops. In the past charity shops were looked down upon by people, they were places for those who had nothing to go to buy other people's castoffs. Often the clothing would be on its last legs, or ill fitting. It wasn't  a place one admitted to going.

The Christmas Crib on Streatham Common

60 years ago John Taylor, of Norbury, built a crib that he placed on Streatham common, next to the Christmas tree, for the whole community to enjoy. He has continued with this generous act annually & this year, on December 3rd , when he puts up the crib once again, will be his 60th year!

The first crib had an oak floor and a thatched roof made with straw from Chianti bottles that were fashionable at the time.  The first figurines were borrowed but Mr Taylor bought  his own set  the following year & has continued to maintain the crib and its occupants ever since.
