Streatham Roundup - Issue 26 October 2016

Streatham was enraptured  by a week of cinema as thousands gathered for the 2nd annual Streatham Free Film Festival. Films from the latest Star Wars release to the 70s classic Saturday Night Fever were featured to wrap up the end of the festivals season in Streatham.

Four local lads won £100 for their school in the Anthony Gold Fun Run on Streatham Common last month. Jacob and Ben Harrison, Jacob Alley and Callum Balme (all of Kingsdale Foundation School and local club Herne Hill Harriers) cruised to a convincing victory over more prestigious rival schools. Streatham and Clapham Girls won their school £100 secondary girls team competition and Henry Cavendish were winners from the primary schools teams. Good on Anthony Gold to support young people’s sport in this way!

The Streatham Vale Property Owners/Occurpiers Association held their annual Streatham Vale Autumn Show at Holy Redeemer Church with a superb exhibition of local produce and food growing, performances and art.

We desperately tried to help locals who invited friends from afar to join them for the Streatham Common Eid Fayre. We published event details based on information shared by Lambeth Council which later turned out to be false. Apologies.

The Boundary Commission has published their draft proposals for Parliamentary constituency boundary changes. Streatham loses wards north of the south circular and gains wards from Norbury and Mitcham to form a new Streatham and Mitcham constituency. Good news is all four Streatham wards remain together in the constituency. We will feature an extended article on this next month.
