Launched in 2008, The Phoenix Book Award is a literary prize judged by children from Years 6, 7 & 8 in Lambeth. For the second year Streatham & Clapham High School hosted the awards in May, giving pupils from ten Lambeth schools the opportunity to quiz, review and vote for their favourite authors. As well as Streatham and Clapham High Schools senior and junior departments, participating Streatham schools this year included Bishop Thomas Grant and Dunraven.  The Awards help keep Lambeth pupils reading during transition years (Y5 to Y8) when they may stop. Northwood Schools are opening a new independent senior school in September next year at 3, Garrad’s Rd. Streatham. NorthWood Senior will be a co-educational school for pupils aged 13 to 16. Northwood Schools, which owns Broomwood Hall and Northcote Lodge pre-prep and preparatory schools have appointed Susan Brooks, currently Deputy Head (Academic) at Broomwood Hall, Head-designate of the new school.
